"Kaitlyn is using her story to help others suffering from eating disorders. She didn't believe she deserved to live, eat, or take up space on Earth. She is a survivor of three different eating disorders: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Many people die from their eating disorders, meanwhile she has found her purpose in helping those who are fighting for their life."
Educational Film on Eating Disorders
We are creating a narrative educational film along with a curriculum free for educators to utilize to address eating disorders.
Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, yet they are treatable. For those suffering, their eating disorder is their best friend – and their worst enemy. It provides them comfort to control, restrict, or gorge on food, while ignoring the emotional and insidious pain that overrules their thoughts. The eating disorder helps them cope by giving them a way to handle their emotions. Their bodies say what they cannot. They simply use food as a way to “stuff” their feelings and fears, instead of expressing them in ways that bring healing and comfort.
This film that includes a guided curriculum for teachers, coaches, and counselors will expose people to a topic that’s typically taboo. There’s a stigma attached to mental illness, however, the only way to fight this belief is to educate with valuable knowledge.
Storytelling should inspire, educate, and advocate the good that’s happening in our communities. Reel Stories. Real People. are giving nonprofits, educational groups, and people associated with a positive cause a voice to explain their purpose of what they’re doing for the betterment of society.
